Lifestyle Newborn Photography Session

One of the most common questions I get when clients inquire about a newborn photo session is whether they should book a lifestyle newborn photography session or a studio session. To a certain extent, this is a personal preference based on your needs, style preference and sometimes whether or not you have older children.

I always tell clients that I am super flexible on this decision. If you initially think you want a studio session and then change your mind to a lifestyle newborn photography session, I am totally fine with that (and vice versa). Having a baby is life altering and sometimes the idea of getting ready and leaving your house soon after having your baby seems overwhelming so having me come to your house makes the most sense.

Many clients have spent a lot of time designing the baby’s nursery and they want this to be a part of the gallery. We usually incorporate photos of the baby in the crib or mom and dad holding baby in a glider. I also try to capture personalized details of your decor.

If you already have a toddler or older sibling, sometimes a lifestyle newborn photography session is easier for everyone. If you had a newborn photo session with your first baby, you might remember that these can take two hours or so. While my studio is spacious and has a TV, that is a lot of time for a toddler to sit still. During a lifestyle newborn session, we will often start with family or sibling pictures first and then do individual pictures of your newborn. This way your toddler or older child is finished rather quickly and then they can resume playing with their own toys or nap in their own bed.

I still bring baskets, wraps, blankets and headbands and we incorporate swaddled pictures so that some of your images have a studio like feel. The photos in the gallery below were taking in clients’ homes. Sometimes I still incorporate your household items (carpets, blankets, baskets, etc.) but still emulate a studio feel.
