In Home Newborn Photography
One of my most common questions is whether I offer in home newborn photography sessions or if I have a studio. Luckily, the answer to both questions is yes! I honestly love both types of sessions and for different reasons. Clients also have different reasons for selecting an in home session versus a studio session. Sometimes I’ve had clients that are building a new home or have a lot of visitors in town and they like the option of going to a studio dedicated to their newborn session. Others are just overwhelmed at the idea of having me come to their house shortly after having a little one. On the other hand, some clients don’t want to leave their home and feel more comfortable having me to come their house. The most common reason clients elect for the in home option is that they have put a lot of love and hard work into their nursery and they want their newborn photos to include images of the nursery. I bring a LOT of items to in home newborn photography sessions as my goal is to recreate my studio in a client’s home. However, we also spend a lot of time capturing “lifestyle” moments and the galleries of in home sessions are often quite diverse.
When I first met Callie, we spent some time talking about the types of newborn photos she was drawn to. We looked at a few pictures and boards from Pinterest and it seemed like she was really drawn to the more natural and candid photos, especially the ones that illustrated a new family’s first few days together. I was thrilled when Callie opted for an in home newborn photography session. Because I am primarily a natural light photographer, I do get a little nervous about shooting in someone else’s home because they may not get much light. I usually make a home visit before the baby has arrived just to double check the light and pre-plan where we will be shooting. Luckily, Callie’s home had amazing natural light – a dream!
Little Clara’s nursery was adorable and so tastefully done. Clara is a family name so Callie wanted to incorporate old photos of Clara’s namesake which you can see in one of the photos below. We also incorporated a picture of Brian’s dad holding Brian when he was little – boy do they look alike! The extra personal touches like this are what I love about in home newborn photography sessions.
They were such a wonderful family to meet and photograph, even the dog Birdie. Little Clara is one lucky little girl!
Enjoy!
